Protected by white sand banks in their natural condition, the Río Piedras Lagoon with more than 10 km. long, it is our jewel.
The difficulties posed by its estuary's depth find their reward in the unique landscape of this estuary and calm waters

The bar is formed by deposits of sand emerged from the sea and set on these dune systems, its path is straight, with orientation west to east being its variable width ranging between 300 and 700 meters.

The setting-up of this arrow is the action of the current deriba coast of the Gulf of Cadiz, tides and discharges of Río Piedas which they have contributed to its genesis and development. Currently, the average annual longitudinal dynamics of growth is about 30 meters.

Navigation channel is variable and the competent administration strives to signalize. The position of the buoys is updated several times a year. The difference between high and low tide, on this coast, ranges from 3.7 meters at spring tides, and just 2 meters from the neap tides.

.3Useful for the navigator is to know that with easterly winds in the Straits of Gibraltar tide levels can rise up to 20 cm., Above the forecast, strong wind and N-west the opposite effect. The draft of the mouth is reduced to 1 meter of water at low tide and at high tide drafts vary from 3 to 4.7 meters deep. These measures limit the entry of vessels with deep draft.
